about

Fictional story set in 1800's San Antonio Texas. A song about a family farm and it's legacy from the beginning to the end.

lyrics

Arrived by train in the Dead of night in San Antone
I said there ain't no railroad tracks laid ahead of here

Then
I bought enough nails to fill an old tin can
I got a horse and a piece of land
Only building plans are in my head now
Laid the cornerstone by candlelight
Supplies arrived by five at the Sunset station

(Chorus)
It took a handsaw to build it all
A place to lay my head down
My great Grand daddy built it once and he built it right
He cleared timber from the land
El Casa Grande Rancho

Rode the rails to the town of Gruene
A new dance hall in Texas
Young lady asked him to waltz
He said yes my dear
Well she felt the rough calluses on his hands
Thought what I got here is a hard working man
The sound of wedding bells are in her head now
And they got hitched that same night
Introduced his wife to the house he built with her in mind

(Chorus)
It took a handsaw to build it all
A chandelier in the entrance hall
Great grand daddy built it once hell he built it right
He said yes ma'am whatever you want
El Casa Grande Rancho
Together with their love will stand the test of time

(Bridge )
His wife's smile his only need
She wants to hear the sound of children feet running
He raised his first child in to the air
Said bless this boy
Hell life ain't fair

She's a farmers wife it's a real good life
Pure as the well water we was drinking
,but a ten year loan didn't seem long enough to me
It's an honest mistake the kind you make
Until the crop prices they was sinking
Then a tin star came to tell my family
You gotta go

Well the bank said no by decree
That head honcho with his higher learning
I looked him dead in the eye
Said let me make this clear
I got a shotgun in hand
You put one foot upon my land
The only sound you'll hear is the songs of angels
If my kin built it up
Hell we'll burn it down
They auctioned off our home
,but the house ain't there no more
Cause

(Chorus)
I took a chainsaw and a wrecking ball
A keg of dynamite
The family legacy lit up the night
I yelled timber
Let it burn
El Casa Grande Rancho

Then a twister came to town
and blew all the evidence around
